The Montblanc 1858 Geosphere 0 Oxygen Carbo2 Only Watch 2023 is Montblanc’s donation to Only Watch for this year, and of course it is somehow related to mountains. Which makes sense when your name comes from the highest mountain in Europe. Although this watch has links with 14 of the highest mountains of the world with the Mount Everest as central theme.
For the 43.5-millimeter case Montblanc used a new material: CO2 from biogas production and mineral wastes from recycling factories is merged with carbon fiber resulting in a material they call CARBO2. Also there is no oxygen (0 oxygen) in the case, an invisible feature, but this prevents fogging and oxidation of parts under heavy circumstances.
The dial shows the time and a second time zone on the sub dial on the left. The Northern and Southern Hemisphere globes are depicted, ringed by a 24-hour scale with day & night indications. At the 3 o’clock position there is a date window. The fluted bi-directional black ceramic bezel has a compass with the cardinal points and “OW” for “Only Watch” portraying West.

The design of the time piece is inspired by the world record breaking alpinist Nimsdai Purja, who is the fastest man to climb all 14 of the world’s highest peaks above 8,000 meters. On the titanium case back there is a 3D laser engraving featuring the Mount Everest and the other 13 highest peaks of the world are written around it in different colors.
Inside the Montblanc 1858 Geosphere 0 Oxygen Carbo2 Only Watch 2023 is an automatic caliber MB 29.25 beating at a frequency of 4 Hz and providing a power reserve of 42 hours. And if you are going to buy this watch, be aware of the fact that the watch comes in a zero oxygen block of ice. So bring a fridge when picking it up or smash it to wear the watch.
