‘Nice watch, what is it?’ is a question one doesn’t wish to answer too often when ones wrist adorns this time piece. The Montblanc Heritage Chronométrie ExoTourbillon Minute Chronograph Vasco De Game. Indeed quite a mouthful. But this new standout watch of the Villeret based watchmaker is worthy of such a complicated name.

The Montblanc Heritage Chronométrie ExoTourbillon Minute Chronograph Vasco De Game is worth such a complicated name

Inside the Montblanc Chronométrie ExoTourbillon Minute Chronograph you will find their in-house Manufacture caliber MB R230. This caliber features two chronometric complications: the ExoTourbillon with a quick stop-second, and a monopusher chronograph with a twin barrel mechanism.

If your are wondering what the conspicious feature at 6 o’clock is, the answer is in the name. For ‘Exo’ is derived from the Greek for external or outside. It refers to the balance with screws, which is positioned outside of the tourbillon’s rotating cage. This allows the cage to be smaller in size (although a still hefty 44 millimeters) and free of the weight of the balance. It saves 30 per cent more energy than a conventional tourbillon, which helps with the 50 hour power-reserve. The fact that the balance is positioned outside of the rotating cage also means that it isn’t affected by the inertia of the cage Which improves precision.
