Bronze is the new stainless steel. Okay, that is probably a bit too bold of a statement, but the material is definitely gaining more and more momentum in watches. Like this Montblanc 1858 Chronograph Tachymeter Limited Edition 100.

The 1858 collection is the more ‘vintage’ line of Montblanc. And it is teaming with bronze watches. 1858 also refers to the founding of the Minerva manufacture in Villeret. The manufacture (now owned by Montblanc) has been renowned as one of Switzerland’s most revered specialists in chronometric functions for precise time measuring. Over the last decade, Montblanc has been exploring Minerva’s heritage, finding inspiration in historical functions, mechanics and designs.

Sometimes the ‘inspirations’ are a little far fetched but with this tribute to a Minerva chronograph from the thirties it works. A 44-millimeter case in bronze and for the first time with a retro-dial that is salmon-colored. Its ‘brother’ in the 1858 family is the Montblanc 1858 Chronograph Tachymeter Limited Edition Bronze. This model has a champagne dial, the same case size and the same movement.

The Montblanc 1858 Chronograph Tachymeter Limited Edition 100 is limited to 100 pieces

The dial is reminiscent of Minerva dials of the past. Especially if you look at the large luminescent cathedral-shaped hands with a cloisonné design, blued chronograph and second hands and luminescent Arabic numerals. In addition, we also find a classic minute railway track and the original Montblanc logo from the 1930s with its historical font. And, of course, the emblem of the Mont Blanc mountain.

Lovers of a good chronograph are in good hands with this manual mono-pusher chronograph. The MB M16.29 movement was designed in a pocket watch style, hence the large 44-millimeter case. The Montblanc 1858 Chronograph Tachymeter Limited Edition 100 comes on a vintage cognac-aged alligator leather strap and is limited to 100 pieces.
