The Hublot Spirit of Big Bang Depeche Mode is another collaboration between the Swiss watch brand and the legendary British pop-rock band Depeche Mode. These collabs raise public awareness and funds for several environmental and humanitarian causes.

Since their partnership started 14 years ago they raised more than 2.3 million dollars for the Teenage Cancer Trust in the past and charity:water now. Which aims at the provision of clean drinking water in developing countries.

Memento Mori, the message that we all die

We are in doubt whether to tell you more about Depeche Mode, but their bio on Wikipedia will tell it all. And pop-rock band doesn’t do justice to their dark electronic new wavy rock dance experimental synth sounds the band creates. It often seems to be timeless. Which is not very memento mori. Anyway, just listen to their album Violator with the volume of your home stereo on max. It still sounds modern but is in fact 34 years old. Switch to their new album after this…

Back to the watch. This Hublot Spirit of Big Bang Depeche Mode pays a tribute to the band’s latest album, Memento Mori. Which is Latin telling you death is inevitable, or literally: remember you must die. It is an artistic or symbolic trope, often symbolized by a skull. Which is depicted on the black plated sapphire dial. And this theme of the death relates to one of the band members, Andy Fletcher, who passed away in 2022.

The kind of “time is running out” message is strengthened with an hourglass mechanism running in the skull. The band’s initials are at the bottom of the dial, in red, contrasting nicely with the black monochrome dial design.

The Hublot Spirit of Big Bang Depeche Mode has a power reserve of 50 hours

The concept of this watch is comparable with the Hublot Spirit of Big Bang Titanium Dragon. A 42 millimeter Spirit of Big Bang with the Hublot caliber HUB1710 inside. An automatic with a power reserve of 50 hours that provides hours, minutes, seconds, and the date, although the latter is not applied on this and the aforementioned Dragon model.

The case and bezel of the Depeche Mode is micro-blasted and polished black ceramic. The bezel and black rubber strap are adorned with pyramid studs decors, but you will also get an additional black fabric strap. The case back is transparent and shows the movement and the Depeche Mode logo.
