When we made a review of the Christiaan van der Klaauw Hypernova, we wrote ‘A hypernova is 100 times more powerful than a supernova’. So, is this Christiaan van der Klaauw Supernova 100 times less anything than the Hypernova? No, it isn’t.

The Christiaan van der Klaauw Supernova is a kind of a light version of the Hypernova. The Supernova has no chronograph, nor a day/night indicator and a simpler date indication. Therefor the dial is even more clear, keeping the attractive CVDK design with indexes on the upper half of the dial and space for astronomical indications on the bottom half.

The moon phase, coated with superluminova, is still at the 6 o’clock position. When the Moon is on the left, it’s in its first quarter. In the center, it’s full moon and when the moon is on the right of the center the moon is in its last quarter. If the Moon is not visible, it is new moon. The name of the founder of the brand and the founding place is around the moon phase; Joure, in the north of The Netherlands.

While the Hypernova model features small seconds at the same position as the moon phase, the Supernova has a large one. The date is indicated by a large hand with a triangle pointer. That hand is grey, in stead of blue like the others, to increase the clearness of the dial.

The case has a transparent back to admire the movement with a special rotor. The rotor is based on the ‘Sun with 12 Claws’, the logo of Christiaan van der Klaauw, also shown on the dial at 12 o’clock. As ‘Klaauw’ is Dutch for ‘claw’.
