Diver’s watches are nowadays something more of a fashion statement than used for deep sea exploration. Fashionable diver’s watches are therefore more commonly named desk divers. Just like this Certina DS Action Diver Chronograph.

The fun thing is that, unlike those SUV’s which look good but would get stuck in the first bit of sand, these ‘desk diver’s’ are worthy of their name. The performance and exceptional functionality is there. Even if it’s only sparsely used.

There are three different dials for the Certina DS Action Diver Chronograph

The Certina DS Action Diver Chronograph is a far descendant of the Certina DS-3, the watch of choice for the Australian Navy in the seventies. The DS Action Diver Chronograph still has some impressive specs. It is waterproof up to 300 meters / 990 feet and meets the strict demands of ISO 6425. Those demands include: setting a dive time beforehand, good readability in the dark, extreme precision and being shock proof.

This is all housed in a rather larger case of 45,7 mm. A bit too big for our tastes. Together with the chunky hands bezel it makes the watch look a bit bloated.

All in the eye of the beholder of course. With the Certina DS Action Diver Chronograph you have a diver’s watch that can keep up with the best of them, but without a price of say a TAG Heuer or an Omega. The Certina is available in three variations, two with a steel bracelet and one with a rubber strap.
