The A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1 Time Zone Platinum is the third model in this series of world timers by the German brand. After a pink gold and white gold version, this one comes in 950 platinum, with a rhodium-colored solid silver dial.

The platinum version also measures 41.9 millimeters, 49.8 millimeters lug to lug, and with a thickness of 10.9 millimeters it’s actually thin. Especially when you take into account that it has a three-day power reserve and provides two times with separated hour and minute hands.

Your so called home time is displayed on the large off-center sub dial, with a blue half-circle connected to the hours showing you if it’s day or night. Which you could forget when you are on the other side of the world. When the blue line is behind the hours hand, it’s night. And being on the other side of the world, your local time is shown on the small sub dial at the 5 o’clock position. Also with a day/night indication shown with a blue line behind the hours hand. The red/silver triangle indicates if the time zone you are in has implemented daylight saving time (DST).

Adjusting a second time on the A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1 Time Zone Platinum is easily

A great feature of the A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1 Time Zone Platinum is that you can adjust the second time zone very easily. Just operate the pusher at the 8 o’clock position and the outer ring with cities indicating all the 24 different time zones, will step one time zone ahead (in the eastern direction). By doing that the hour hand of the sub dial for the second time zone automatically changes with it. Swapping the times on both sub dials is also possible, but needs somewhat more handling. Same for correcting the date.

Flipping the watch over you see the Lange caliber L031.1. This hand-wound movement is exceptionally finished: untreated German silver, screwed gold chatons, blued screws, elaborate whiplash precision index adjuster and a balance cock and an intermediate-wheel cock, both hand-engraved. All visible through the sapphire crystal case back.
