The A. Lange & Sohne Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon Honeygold Lumen marks 25 years of the Datograph. This new and limited version follows the original model from 1999 with reference 403.035. A 39-millimeter platinum version combining a (big) date with a chronograph, which leads to its name Datograph. The model was in production until 2012 and has several other reference numbers related to updates, case material, dial color and strap/bracelet options. Now, this new ref. 740.055FE is limited edition to 50 pieces.

The 41.5-millimeter case is from honey gold, a gold alloy developed and patented by A. Lange & Sohne. They use it for their most special models, it is harder than other gold alloys and it has a hue between pink and white gold. To fit all the complications the thickness of the case is 14.6 millimeters.

All indications light-up in the dark

There is a sapphire crystal dial that is coated with luminescent material: “lumen”. In the dark it lights-up the whole dial with a green-ish hue so all the complications and indications on the dial, including the tachymeter scale, can be read in the dark.

We name all the complications and indications: there are the hours, minutes, and subsidiary seconds, and a tourbillon with stop seconds. Then there is a flyback chronograph with precisely jumping minute counter, and a tachymeter scale. And lastly the perpetual calendar with big date, day of week, month, leap year and day/night indicator. And of course a moon phase display.

The A. Lange & Sohne Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon Honeygold Lumen has a power reserve of 50 hours

Through its sapphire case back, the hand-wound A. Lange & Sohne caliber L952.4 can be admired. It is a successor of the first movement used for the Datograph 25 years ago. That Lange caliber 951.1 drives a big date and a flyback column-wheel chronograph. This caliber was succeeded by the caliber 952.1 that has a tourbillon, perpetual calendar and moon phase as well. The new L952.4 is an evolved version of that one.

This manual A. Lange & Sohne caliber L952.4 has 684 components, 57 jewels, with plates and bridges of untreated German silver. It is decorated by hand, with a shock-resistant balance with eccentric poising weights and provides a 50-hour power reserve. Its case back reveals a prominent part of the movement, including the tourbillon which is hardly visible through the sapphire dial on the front.

The price of the Datograph Lumen exceeds half a million

The A. Lange & Sohne Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon Honeygold Lumen comes on a dark brown alligator leather strap. It is secured with a deployant buckle that has parts of 18-carat honey gold and 18-carat white gold.

Officially the price is on request but rumors tell the price is around 620,000 US dollars. Including taxes.
