The A. Lange & Söhne Datograph Up/Down is one our favorite Lange watches ever but if you want something a bit slimmer the 1815 chronograph is the way to go. It’s now available with darker colors: the A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Chronograph Black Dial.
When you watch very closely you will notice that the A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Chronograph Black Dial is 1.5-millimeter slimmer than its predecessor. This is because Lange removed the date. Another first for Lange with this watch is the combination of a white gold case and a black pulsation dial. In 2004 there was a pulsation dial in silver with a white gold case and a black pulsation dial with a pink gold case.
The A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Chronograph Black Dial is as accurate as it looks
The total highlight of the watch is, for us at least, when you turn the case and admire the see-through case back. A. Lange & Söhne has been crafting models with stopwatch functions since 1999 – fitted with sapphire-crystal case backs like all other Lange watches.
Some have called it a ‘little city’. The extra of that see-through case back is that you can see all of the intricacies of a chronograph at work. The many levers and springs of the chronograph can be observed in action. And they work, as you can imagine, extremely precise. Because this Lange beats at a frequency of 18,000 semi-oscillations per hour (2.5 Hertz), the watch can measure times with an accuracy of one fifth of a second.
This new A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Chronograph Black Dial is not a limited edition, nor will it replace the current non-pulsation dial version. It’s just a nice addition and some great competition in the high-end chronograph game.
