Since 2005 every two years the Association Monégasque contre les Myopathies organizes an auction of watches called Only Watch. All the watches auctioned are unique pieces donated by a number of the world’s most prestigious watch brands. Which means Only Watch 2017, the 7th edition, will raise millions.
The association from Monaco fights Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a genetic disorder characterized by progressive muscle degeneration and weakness. Symptom onset is in early childhood, mostly in boys, usually between ages 3 and 5 and life expectations were very poor. Thanks to research, advances in cardiac and respiratory care, life expectancy is increasing – which means survival into the early 30s is becoming more common. Relatively great, if you consider that usually people did not survive much beyond their teen years. But more steps can be taken, if there is more money for research.

Since the first edition Only Watch raised over 25 million Euros that enabled to finance numerous scientific and medical research programs. A fantastic result which can and should be expanded. To give you an idea: in 2015, a Patek Philippe classic repeater was actioned for more than 7 million US dollars. But there are also unique pieces for less than 5.000 dollars.
Today, 49 brands donated a unique piece and these are exhibited in 9 cities around the world. The start of Only Watch 2017 is in Monaco, at the 27th of September. To auction, executed by Christie’s, is in Geneva, on the 11th of November.
In the next few weeks we will review the most important and interesting watches that will be auctioned. Note that some lots offer unique experiences like factory visits or a lunch with the CEO of the brand, and collaborations.
