The Tudor Black Bay 39 is part of a new series of rather plain, yet quality models named the Black Bay 31/36/39/41. Which relates to the size of the case. So, the model is also available in 31, 36 and 41 millimeters, with the same dial colors, and each with a different COSC certified automatic movement. Let’s take a look at the 39-millimeter version.

The watch is powered by the Tudor caliber MT5602, which is COSC certified and also used in several other Tudor models, like this Tudor Pelagos FXD Alinghi Red Bull Racing Edition. This automatic in-house movement with bidirectional rotor system and non-magnetic silicon balance spring is just solid as a rock. With a sufficient power reserve of 70 hours. The COSC certification plus specs kind of explains the price tag of the watch.

The Tudor Black Bay 39 has a power reserve of 70 hours

For the dial there are three options. The reference M79660-0001 has a anthracite dial, the 0002 comes with a dark blue dial and the 0003 with a dial in light champagne. The indexes and hands have grade A super-luminova and yes, the hour hand has the renewed Tudor angular shape. Also known as a snowflake hand, already introduced by the brand in 1969. The stainless steel case is polished and has a satin finish.

The Tudor Black Bay 39 comes on a 5-link stainless steel bracelet, also with polished and satin finish. It is secured by a so called “T-fit” folding clasp. And if you are more interested in a slightly bigger model, check this Tudor Black Bay 41. Other variants of the 31/36/39/41 are the S&G models that come in a combination of steel and gold. Just like the plain models these are also available with diamonds.
