This new Senna chronograph is the result of a reconnected partnership between TAG Heuer and the estate of the late Ayrton Senna. The legendary racing driver joined the McLaren Formula 1 team in 1988. From than he is TAG Heuer’s ambassador as TAG partly owns the Formula 1 team.

The TAG Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph Ayrton Senna Limited Edition is new in the legal sense of the word. But as with these ‘limited editions’ it is really a reinterpretation of the regular Formula 1 chronograph. Just like the Manchester United Special Edition for example.

Don’t mix-up this TAG Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph Ayrton Senna Limited Edition with the ManU edition

Not that there’s anything wrong with kind of copying existing models. The affordable and reliable Ronda quartz, caliber 5040D, works fine and is Swiss made. The PVD coated case looks good and the 43-millimeter case has some nice Senna details to win over race enthusiasts.

Take a look for example at the Senna-logo on the bezel, the Senna logo on one of the chronograph counters at 10 o’clock and the S-shaped links that is unmistakably linked to Senna. This time around in a more modern rubberized version.

TAG Heuer’s archetypal racing model may not be the most original of their range with a lot of ‘limited editions’, but in this price range it’s a good bet. Just don’t be surprised if they confuse it with the rather similar Manchester United limited edition.
