The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Skipper Rose Gold is new variant of the Skipper that was released last year. The 2023 Skipper is crafted in stainless steel and this new one comes in rose gold. The model was originally launched in 1968 as the Heuer Skipper Reference 7754, which is now a very rare watch with only about 20 known pieces. In 2017 a revised version was presented, the TAG Heuer Limited Edition Carrera Skipper for Hodinkee, limited to 125 pieces. The steel one from last year is not limited, and this new gold version neither.
This Skipper is crafted in a 39-millimeter case following TAG Heuer’s new glassbox design. The gold is 18k 5N solid rose gold, fine brushed and polished with a bezel-free construction case. The crown, pushers and case back are from the same gold quality.
The Skipper still has a regatta timer
The original Skipper was developed for boat racing, and for that one needs a regatta timer. Which is a countdown indication so a skipper knows when a race starts in order to make his preparations for that start. It is easy to operate: just start the chronograph and the minute counter will show the “regatta time”. When this regatta time has reached for instance 15 minutes, one can sail off.
The regatta timer on the 2017 Skipper indicates 30 minutes with steps of 10 minutes. The original ref. 7754, the 2023 ref. CBS2213.FN6002 version and this model stick to the traditional 15 minutes. Each 5-minute period has its own color for easy reading. There are also small seconds and the date at 6 o’clock, and a 12-hour counter at 9.
The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Skipper Rose Gold has a power reserve of 80 hours
Inside is the automatic TAG Heuer caliber Heuer 02 with reference TH20-06. A column-wheel chronograph movement with vertical clutch and 80 hours of power reserve. It is topped-up by a new, bi-directional rotor in the shape of TAG Heuer’s shield symbol. Which you can see through the transparent case back.
The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Skipper Rose Gold comes on a blue fabric strap with a fine brushed, polished 18K 5N solid rose gold pin buckle and a TAG Heuer shield.
