TAG Heuer is introducing a great comeback of one of their iconic watches, the TAG Heuer Carrera Skipper 2023 version. The original from 1968 was revived in 2017 by TAG Heuer and watch website and dealer Hodinkee with the TAG Heuer Limited Edition Carrera Skipper for Hodinkee. But this new one comes much closer to the Skipperera from the 60’s.
It brings out the modernized looks of the new Carrera glassbox design signature combined with the ‘old’ colors of the original Skipper. The dial is therefor colorful, with a blue main dial and contrasting sub dials with three different colors: Intrepid Teal, Lagoon Green, and Regatta Orange.
The TAG Heuer Carrera Skipper 2023 is obviously new, but with a nice slice of vintage-ness
The new Skipper is executed in a 39-millimeter stainless steel case with a thickness of 13.9 millimeters. It is bezel free and almost looks like the original Skipper with reference 7754. The old Skipper was from Heuer – with that logo on top of the dial, before the name change to TAG Heuer. Futhermore, the word ‘’Skipper’’ on top of the dial of the original has moved to the hour counter. And this one comes with a date. Also, it has three instead of two sub dials: a 12-hour chronograph counter, a regatta timer or 5-minute count-down indicator and a very subtle small seconds counter to stick close to the original.
The rhodium plated indexes and hour and minute hands with super-luminova complement the blue circular brushed dial. And all that is protected by the glassbox domed sapphire crystal. The watch has a water resistance of 100 meters.
Inside the TAG Heuer Carrera Skipper2023 is the TAG Heuer caliber TH20-06. A bi-directional winding chronograph which delivers a power reserve of 80 hours.
