The Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Hijri Calendar is the horological expression of the Islamic or Muslim calendar. This moon based calendar was developed by Muslim scholars and astronomers in the 8th century. You can see it as a religious calendar often used next to the Gregorian calendar as well.
Parmigiani originally launched their first Hijri calendar in 2019 in a 44.5-millimeter platinum with a grey dial (ref. PFH980-2000110-HA1482). Now it comes in a 42-millimeter stainless steel case with a viridian green dial. The dial is adorned with Grain d’Orge hand-guilloché. The sub dial at 12 o’clock features the 30-year cycle with the abundant 355-day years in beige and the standard 354-day years in white.
Even the period of Ramadan is marked on the dial
The sub dial at 3 o’clock marks the numbered months of the year with the ninth month of Ramadan colored in red. The sub dial at 9 o’clock indicates the days of the month with an aperture indicating whether it is a 30-day abundant month or a 29-day common month. A white aperture indicates a 29-day month.
The beige aperture indicates a 30-day month, with the number 30 in beige and written in Arabic as ۳۰ Lastly, the 6 o’clock sub dial displays the blue aventurine moon phase display, which shows the position of the moon in the northern and southern hemispheres.
The Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Hijri Calendar has a power reserve of 48 hours
Inside is an automatic Parmigiani caliber PF009, which also powered the 2019 Hijri Perpetual calendar. It is visible at the back along with its skeletonized rotor, and meticulous Côtes de Genève and perlage finishing. It runs at a high frequency of 4 Hz delivering a power reserve of 48 hours.
The Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Hijri Calendar comes on a polished and satin-finished stainless steel bracelet secured with a stainless steel folding clasp.
