The Oris Big Crown ProPilot Day Date 2016 is the new ProPilot, an updated version. It is now available with a brushed anthracite dial, replacing both the plain grey and black dial from the 2014 model. Oris offers different straps in leather, nylon or a stainless steel bracelet.
The oversized crown is a nod to the ‘big crown’ – hence the name – that Oris originally designed for Pilots pre-World War II. It made it easier to adjust the watch with gloves on when flying at high altitude on a bombing mission over continental Europe. Now it comes handy in wintertime, when you don’t have to remove your gloves to adjust your watch.
The Oris Big Crown ProPilot Day Date 2016 has jet engine design features
Although it looks nice, we don’t get the design of the lunette. It is ribbed, or fluted, as it would be on a divers watch for grip, but it is non-rotating. It should remind us of a jet engine, but this is purely a design thing, and non functioning parts do not belong on a tool-like Pilot watch.
We do like the amount of straps you can choose from, and each changes the look of the watch completely.
