The IWC Portofino has been one of core IWC collections since the early 80s. The newest addition is the IWC Portofino Hand-Wound Moon Phase in either stainless steel or 18-carat red gold.

A new Portofino in a year that is actually reserved for the new Da Vinci collection, as IWC traditionally updates one collection every year.

But to stay ‘top of mind’ they regularly drop new models, like this simple, yet striking Portofino Hand-Wound Moon Phase. A real Portofino with a plain and relaxed design and a straightforward appeal. The Portofino collection will never be truly groundbreaking, but they look great with proven mechanical provenance.

The IWC Portofino Hand-Wound Moon Phase is a tribute to the Ref. 5251 from 1984

The watch is a tribute to the Reference 5251 from 1984, another timepiece that was equipped with this complication. When developing the IWC manufactured 59800 movement, the watch designers enhanced the basic 59000 caliber with a moon phase module. This module only needs to be adjusted by one day every 122 years. The power-reserve comes to an impressive eight days (192 hours).

The 45-millimeter watch is available in two versions. The first version has an 18-carat red gold case, a slate-colored dial and solid gold appliqués (Ref. IW516403). The second has a stainless-steel case, a silver-plated dial and gold-plated appliqués (Ref. IW516401).

The IWC Portofino Hand-Wound Moon Phase is fitted with a dark brown alligator leather strap made by Santoni.
