The Grönefeld 1969 DeltaWorks is a kind of flexible watch that comes in 30 different variants if we did the maths correctly. There are three dial colors, five strap colors and you can get it with a rubber or a steel case band insert. If you don’t know this Dutch brand, from a distance it looks like a colorful everyday dress watch. But it’s not.

The name DeltaWorks comes from a large architectural construction in The Netherlands to keep the sea away from the land. It was constructed after a flood took over big parts of lands in the year 1953. And in 1969 one of the founders of the brand was born. The brand itself calls the 1969 DeltaWorks its first sports utility watch as it looks sporty and can easily withstand things like dust and shocks and more. That’s the utility part.

The Grönefeld 1969 DeltaWorks has a power reserve of 56 hours

What you see is a rather large (45 millimeters) sporty dress watch with a very high-end movement created by two specialists, also brothers, who founded the brand. Watch lovers recognize the quality Grönefeld provides and therefor the watch sells so good the brand had to stop taking orders. Mind you, this is a watch of around 50k. But you can be on the waiting list.

That said, inside is an automatic Grönefeld caliber G-06 which can be admired through the sapphire case back. It delivers a power reserve of 56 hours, has a hand-finished rotor turning on ceramic ball bearings, preventing wear and don’t need to be lubricated. Furthermore, the oscillating weight in 18k gold features four stainless steel arms positioned beneath the mass to prevent the weight hitting the sapphire in case of a shock. The finish of all elements is delicate and makes it haute horlogerie.

The sportiness of the watch is underlined by an integrated FKM rubber strap available in black, olive, blue, white or orange. So together with the inlays on the side of the case, the watch can be personalized to a certain extend. If you can order one, that is…
