The Frederique Constant Slimline Moonphase Date x seconde/seconde/ shows that high-end watchmaking is still done by hand. That is why the applied hour markers look so weird. FC’s collab with the artist seconde/seconde/ refers to the handcrafted aspect of the watch, with typography and details that look to be applied by hand as well. As nothing is straight or even.
It looks playful and the watch is available in two versions. One with rose gold tones on the dial and crown, and one with steel tones. The rose gold version is limited to 10 pieces, the steel toned to 100 pieces.
Who is seconde/seconde/?
Luckily the artist seconde/seconde/ also has a regular name: Romaric André. He is a watch lover that gained popularity by commenting on watches, hacking designs and more. Combining his rather disruptive new views on watches and watchmaking with a serious Manufacture Slimline model leads to this new watch.
His signature is not only on the dial, but also on the case back. His artist name is engraved on the stainless steel case back. And on the sapphire back FC has printed: “How do we tell the world that manual-assembly is at the core of manufacture? We asked artist seconde/seconde/. He took it too far.” Cool? Up to you, but the rose gold toned is already sold-out.

We actually like it. The fun part is in the in-house Moonphase Date element of the watch combined with a subtle comic appearance. The automatic Frederique Constant caliber FC-705 runs the watch, providing 38 hours of power reserve.
The gold toned version comes on a brown alligator leather strap, and in black for the steel version. Both secured by a folding buckle.
