The Zenith Chronomaster Original Triple Calendar is a retro-styled comeback of the Chronomaster with day, date, and month indication and a moon phase. Its roots can be traced back to 1969 when the first Zenith El Primero (reference A386) was launched. At the time it was a groundbreaking automatic high-frequency chronograph and initially designed to include a triple calendar and moon phase right from the beginning.

In 1970, 25 prototypes of a watch with the triple calendar and moon phase functions were produced as a proof of concept. These prototypes, the Zenith El Primero Triple Calendar reference 1205SP, used the same round case as the A386. Inside it the Zenith El Primero caliber 3019 PHF. However, due to the success of the core chronograph version of the El Primero, Zenith decided to wait a few years before releasing the first version of the triple calendar El Primero.

Zenith first first triple calendar after the prototypes

In 1972 the brand released the Zenith El Primero Espada reference A7817 with a triple calendar. Around 1,100 pieces were made. This model is also equipped with the Zenith El Primero caliber 3019 PHF. And later, in 1994, another triple calendar was released with the Zenith Chronomaster El Primero 410. And more triple calendars would follow. However, the newest goes back to the oldest El Primero.

It comes in six versions. With a silver opaline dial and black-toned counters, a slate-grey toned opaline dial and silver-toned counters, or an olive green toned sunray patterned dial with silver-toned counters. Each is available with a matching leather strap or a metal bracelet. The 38-millimeter stainless steel case mirrors the design and dimensions of the ref. A386 from 1969.

The watch has a bezel-less design and displays a raised and domed sapphire crystal. And despite the “old” sizes the automatic chronograph caliber fits perfectly into the case, without any alteration to its dimensions.

The Zenith Chronomaster Original Triple Calendar has a power reserve of 60 hours

Inside runs the automatic Zenith caliber El Primero 3610 SC. It can be admired through its transparent sapphire case back. Where you can see the skeletonized rotor with the Zenith star, blue screws, and the column wheel of the chonograph. The power reserve is 60 hours.

If you want to buy one, the Zenith Chronomaster Original Triple Calendar with silvery-white or slate-grey dial is available from all Zenith boutiques and authorized retailers. The version in green is available exclusively from Zenith physical and online boutiques worldwide.
