Last year Ulysse Nardin released a new Sonata, from that moment belonging to the Classic collection. This Ulysse Classic Sonata was a limited edition (99 pieces) in marine style. Now Ulysse Nardin launched two new models: the Ulysse Nardin Classic Sonata with Black or White dial. Both models are not limited.
The version with a black dial has classic looks; the 44-millimeter case is from 18k rose gold and together with the deep black dial, gold hands and black leather strap it’s almost a dress watch. The version with a white dial has the same 44-millimeter stainless steel case as the limited marine style version. Together with the blued hands it provides a sportier look.
Inside, nothing has changed. And why should they? The UN-67 caliber with silicium escapement is a high-end movement with alarm function and GTM. The alarm settings can be seen at the 1 o’clock position. That subdial also includes the power-reserve indicator. The dual time zone is at 6 o’clock while the on/off-switch for the alarm function is at 10. The dial looks a bit busy with the big date aperture and, due to the color scheme, prominent looking seconds hand. But if you take a look again, and one more, you will notice its subtle layout.
The Ulysse Nardin Classic Sonata with Black or White dial has a fair price for its complexity
The alarm function is the key feature of the Ulysse Nardin Classic Sonata with Black or White dial. It has no (poor sounding) traditional alarm mechanism coupled to the movement, instead it uses a cathedral gong that surrounds the movement twice. This sounds so much better, louder and warmer. The rhythm or speed of the sounds is controlled by a patented inertial oscillator.
Given the complexity of the movement and its alarm function the price isn’t even that high.
