With this TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 a new battle starts. The smartwatch is gaining popularity while mechanical watches lose popularity. There are several reasons why, like the price and functionality, but TAG Heuer has found a solution for that. After ‘testing’ with the TAG Heuer Connected watch the brand is ready for the next step. A fully customizable connected watch providing a little more than the basic functionality of a smartwatch mixed with a mechanical watch.

Let’s start with the customizability. For the exterior, you can choose between 56 different versions, from which 11 are standard. A case from satin or polished grade 5 titanium, or plated with 18K 5N rose gold, or in black ceramic, with or without diamonds? All possible. Lugs? Your choice. The TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 is smart but if you want the mechanical part as well, you have to pay extra

Inside the TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 is an Intel based mini-computer with Android Wear operating system showing its functionality through a sapphire crystal OLED touchscreen. TAG Heuer developed 30 digital dials to show. Panda dials, dials colored white, black, light grey, anthracite grey, chocolate brown, navy blue or gold. And dials with sunray finish, skeleton dials, with 3 hands, GMT, a chronograph with 1, 2, or 3 counters, plus a date and day window. And it has GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, sensors to measure what you are doing and where, a water-resistant microphone, 4 GB of storage and a rechargeable lithium battery with about 24 hours of power. The whole thing talks with your phone in Android 4.3+ or iOS 9+ language.

Now, if you are bored of walking around like a techie you can swap the connected part with a conventional mechanical watch. Any you like from the TAG Heuer calibre 5 up to the TAG Heuer calibre Heuer 02 T with one-minute flying tourbillon. That is the nice part. The rather disappointing part is that it doesn’t come with the mechanical parts. You have to buy that separately. Which makes the TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 a very good-looking, smart concept and an expensive connected watch at the same time. Although the Deluxe box set with tourbillon is a good offer. However, we don’t think anyone at Apple will panic.
