Right at the moment of the Formula One Grand Prix in Monaco, TAG Heuer launches three new TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph Skeleton models. The first Monaco with an open-worked dial. They all come with a titanium case where one has it executed in DLC, Diamond Like Coating, giving it a matt black finish. If you have watched the F1 you could have seen Formula One world champion Max Verstappen wearing the new Monaco.

Constantly changing you iconic original can be a risk. If you cross lines that float away from the signature, the basic design, you might lose fans. But maybe you also win new ones. And as it all comes down to selling your new product, the new Monaco in this case, it might be worth to discover the borders. Luckily TAG didn’t push them too far, although the turquoise colors of the DLC model might frighten some Monaco fans.

The TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph Skeleton sticks to the original

The case is still 39 x 39 millimeters, just like the original from 1969. The pushers of the chronograph are still at the right, but the crown has moved a couple of times, due to the change of the movements inside. The original had the crown on the left, with the Heuer caliber 11 that was used for a long time. This new TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph Skeleton has the Heuer caliber 02 with a power reserve of 80 hours.

It’s not the titanium that marks this new Monaco, nor the black on the DLC version, it’s the open-worked dial. From now on a large part of the movement can be seen through the front of the watch. And another part through the transparent case back. The dial still has enough readability – the chronograph sub-dials are not transparent. And the floating small seconds at the 6 o’clock position are a nice detail.

The new Monaco will surely attract new fans, without losing the old one.
