The recently started restyle of the Carrera Chronograph models leads to this new TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph 39 mm Glassbox. Which is not the exact name TAG gives it, but it makes it easier to get a grip on which model is which and especially from when if you don’t want to try to remember all reference numbers. Just remember that the first Carrera Chronograph from 1963 has reference 2447 and was a competitor of the Rolex Daytona (also from 1963, and both had a Valjoux movement back then) and Omega’s Speedmaster (released in 1957).
So, the celebration of the 60th anniversary of TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph gives us new models like the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon Glassbox, and the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph 42 mm, which is not glassbox-like but a true Carrera anyway. And this TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph 39 mm Glassbox is another fine addition to the series. The glassbox design by the way, comes from 1970s Carrera’s that had a large domed hesalite crystal to improve the readability of the tachymeter scale.
The new TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph 39 mm Glassbox has bidirectional winding
This 39-millimeter stainless steel version comes with two different dials in blue and black. The blue dial is completely blue, while the black has a reverse panda dial with black and silver sub-dials. And both are Carrera-styled and go very well with the 39-millimeter case. Which has a water resistance of 100 meters.
Behind the transparent case back is TAG Heuer’s caliber TH20-00, an updated Heuer 02 with an oscillating weight that offers bidirectional winding. It’s the same movement as the Tourbillon Glassbox but without tourbillon and with a date. Which is at the 6 o’clock position with the blue version and on top of the dial with the black one. The power reserve is a sufficient 80 hours.
