Watches in (dark) blue are getting more and more popular and IWC follows suit with their newest iteration of the Portugieser. The Portugieser Automatic has become one of the most successful Portugieser models ever to be produced in Schaffhausen. The balanced dial design with small seconds and power-reserve indicator retains the classic appeal of the original Portugieser. Which was first manufactured in the 1930s.

The IWC Portugieser Automatic Blue Dial is powered by IWC’s very own 52010 caliber. The Pellaton automatic winding system has ceramic components and generates a 7-day power-reserve in two barrels.

The IWC Portugieser Automatic Blue Dial is bigger than you expect

A display at 3 o’clock indicates the energy remaining, with a small seconds subdial positioned at 9 o’clock. This is all housed in a 42.3-millimeter stainless steel case with rhodium-plated hands and appliques. A nice contrast to the deep blue of the dial.

Blue is the new black, and why not? It is an elegant option and not too classical. A good decision from IWC to let that popular dial color of their more high-end watches trickle down to the more in demand IWC’s out there.

Good news: this is not a limited edition to just get a piece of the popular blue-dial hype. The blue dials will be a standard option for the Portugieser Automatic. One that comes on a black alligator leather strap.
