Big chance you associate the Hysek brand with statement watches. Bold in design and technique. Not this time. For their newest design, the Hysek IO 42 mm Power Reserve, they throttled back and ‘reinvented a classic’. A model that shows Hyseks take on classical watchmaking. Which is actually more complicated than it looks, according to CEO Akram Aljord. In an area in which almost everything has been accomplished it’s hard to renew, he says. “Renewing the genre – and adding something new in keeping with our own DNA – has been a gargantuan challenge”, says Aljord.

The IO collection consists of round, classical designed watches featuring date, moon phase and chronograph; the key complications of traditional watchmaking. The new IO 42 mm Power Reserve focuses on power-reserve. It’s the only watch in their collection with a power-reserve indication. And it’s sober.

The round 42-millimeters steel case is topped by a fitted bezel that reveals four cavities; Hyseks signature lugs. Through the sapphire case back you see the automatic Swiss made movement powering the timepiece. It has a Côtes de Genève finish and blued screws. The caliber beats at 28,800 vph. The 42-hours power-reserve is deployed at 6 o’clock.

The new model comes with a lively blue or white sun-brushed dial and rhodium-plated hands, and sports a leather blue or black strap. The big date display is at 12 o’clock. The single crown at 3 o’clock is used to set time and date. On the crown is a black disc bearing a raised “H” for Hysek. The numerals on the dial are in proper Hysek style meaning only showing the 1, 5, 7 and 11 Arabic numeral applique hour markers.
