The new Eterna Granges 1856 collection is a matter of ‘what you see is what you get’. In this case a high quality basic watch with as many as 10 style variations in dials and straps. And each variation is limited to 100 pieces. It is named after the founding place and founding year of the Swiss brand. The variety of the Granges 1856 collection makes it a great daily watch for many people.
There are four dial colors: charcoal, black, silver and blue. The silver dial is available with either Roman or Arabic numerals. We see a two-window big date complication at 2 o’clock. The black dial version has a matching date disc giving a more streamlined look. Each dial is available on a stainless steel bracelet or a leather strap with a folding clasp.

Whatever dial or strap you chose it’s the same movement what makes all these watches tick: the caliber 3030. This is a movement made by Eterna in-house. Nice to know is that Eterna more and more often supplies smaller watch brands with a movement. This 3030 movement has a 48-hour power reserve. It actually is the thinnest automatic movement available featuring a big date complication and measures only 4.63 millimeters.
To create such a compact movement the date discs are placed alongside each other. Secondly the date discs are curved matching the shape of the dial. Which reduces the thickness at the edge of the dial. Changing the date either backward or forward can be done at any time and won’t harm the caliber.
The stainless steel case of the watch measures 42 millimeters across and is only 9.8 millimeters thick. As a bonus Eterna offers an engraving service free of charge. So you can personalize the case back with your name, mark an important date or engrave a short message. The watch is available for purchase through the Eterna website.
