To celebrate this year’s Oktoberfest Hublot launches yet another idiomatic time piece. The Hublot Big Bang Unico Bavaria. It is all about bronze, beer and deer.

If you are not familiar to the Oktoberfest, it’s a traditional annual party held in October in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. A 16- to 18-day folk festival that started in 1810 and still lives on. This year from September the 16^th until October the 3^rd. People drink (Bavarian) beer in large quantities and enjoy the traveling funfair while dressed in a traditional Bavarian outfit. Short suede leather trousers (Lederhosen) with suspenders and embroidery work, long socks, a shirt and an alpine hat. It attracts millions of visitors and is known as the world’s biggest people’s fair.

The strap that comes with the Hublot Big Bang Unico Bavaria is reminiscent of the traditional leather trousers. It is cut in deer leather and hand-embroidered with a pattern only possible to create on deer leather. A traditional form of craftsmanship that goes back to the late 1600s. The straps for Hublot are created by a firm called Meindl (Est. 1683) and have this vintage look by using an age-old technique.

To ensure the watch itself matches the strap, Hublot uses bronze for the case. Just like the strap it creates its own unique patina over time, giving it a classic Bavarian flavor.

These Bavarian looks are the highlight of this watch but let’s not forget the movement. It’s the automatic caliber HUB1241 with column-wheel chronograph and date. It has a power-reserve of 72 hours and can be admired through the skeleton dial and transparent case back. The strap and the water-resistance of 100 meters/ 330 feet can easily resist some splashes of beer. Drinking a few might flush your doubts of buying one.
