German watch manufacturer Hanhart launches the Hanhart Pioneer Flieger One NightBlue, a limited edition with hints to the past. And that past is their somewhat famous 417, a pilot chronograph from the 1950s used by the German Armed Forces. However, the similarities are a bit thin. Yes, this new model has the renewed fluted bezel the old model has too, and yes, the dial is also black and has the same typographics. But that’s it. The result nevertheless is a very affordable Hanhart, as a chronograph would have cost way more.

Hanhart already launched a couple of these ‘stripped-down’ models in steel with grey, blue or white dial, and all with a date function. This new Hanhart Pioneer Flieger One NightBlue distinguishes from those models with a black PVD coated case and the absence of a date function. And the price is a couple of hundreds higher.

The Hanhart Pioneer Flieger One NightBlue has the historical logo

Apart from its nice sinister looks, there is another feature we like about this limited edition. It is the logo. For this version Hanhart printed their old, historical logo on the dial, which boosts the vintage inspired-by feeling a bit more. Together with the oversized crown of course, which is always easy to operate with gloves when flying.

Inside the Hanhart Pioneer Flieger One NightBlue is an automatic Sellita SW200 with a power reserve of 38 hours. Reliable, but not the most modern automatic on the market. This, and the lack of a chronograph, keeps the price down.

It is not a bargain, but given the fact that it is a limited edition of 150 pieces only, you won’t regret buying one.
