This Hanhart 417 ES Tornado Maiden Flight celebrates the 50th anniversary of the maiden flight of a European combat aircraft, the Tornado. This defense machine was developed with the partnering nations Germany, Great Britain, and Italy, which is why their aerial flag (cockade) is on the dial. The first flight to test the fighter was on the 14th of August 1974, and therefor Hanhart limits this watch to 148 pieces – a portmanteau of the date and month.
So, the cockade is a big eye-catcher, and so is the huge “Tornado” logo above the 6 o’clock position. The dial design follows the bi-compax layout as we known from the German brand, so with small seconds at 9 with the cockade background and a 30-minute chronograph counter at 3. And large hands, with large Arabic numerals, both with luminescent material. Plus, the rotating ribbed fluted bezel with red marker.
The Hanhart 417 ES Tornado Maiden Flight has a power reserve of 58 hours
Hanhart uses the manual-winding Sellita caliber AMT5100 M for this Tornado model, with a column wheel chronograph. This movement is produced by Manufacture AMT, a company owned by Sellita where they make high-end movements for a variety of brands. The AMT5100 M (for manual) provides a power reserve of 58 hours.
The Hanhart 417 ES Tornado Maiden Flight comes on a black calfskin strap with white stitching and leather underlay. The inside is from alcantara for more comfort, and the stainless steel pin buckle bears Hanhart’s historic logo. On the case back there is an engraving of the Tornado fighter jet together with information about the first flight.
