The Hanhart 417 ES Moby Dick has returned. The watch draws inspiration from the original 39-millimeter Hanhart 417 ES that was released in 1954 as the very first pilot’s chronograph for the newly founded German armed forces after WWII. That model was nicknamed Moby Dick, probably because of its size. And it became available with a black or white dial.
In 2020 the German brand released the 417 ES Reissue, a black 42-millimeter look-a-like, and later also a black 39 millimeter 417 ES 1954. A Panda and Reverse Panda were released as well, both in 42 and 39 millimeters. Today’s Moby Dick is a 42-millimeter stainless steel version, in German Edel Stahl (ES). And it has a white dial with beige numerals and blue hands.
The Hanhart 417 ES Moby Dick has a power reserve of 48 hours
The new Moby Dick is powered by a hand-wound Sellita caliber SW510 M. A bi-compax chronograph with small seconds at 9 and a 30 minutes chronograph counter at 3 o’clock. Shock-proofed, providing a power reserve of 48 hours.
The 417 ES Moby Dick comes on a brown cowhide strap adorned with white stitching, fastened by a pin-buckle. Additionally, you can go for a black Bund strap with white stitches or a stainless steel bracelet.
