Another edition of Girard-Perregaux’ most favorite model, the Laureato. GP shows its dark side with the all new Girard-Perregaux Laureato 42 mm Ceramic.

A nice twist on the classic Laureato, which has been a staple of the brand since the mid 1970s. A time also known as the Gerald Genta era of watches. Genta being responsible for two of the most famous watches from the seventies: the Patek Philippe Nautilus and the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak.

The Laureato was clearly inspired by the former two with its Clous de Paris dial and octagonal shaped bezel. The Girard-Perregaux Laureato 42 mm Ceramic is a welcome addition after the slew of releases earlier this year (34!). The watch loses some of its classic appeal for a sportier look with an all black ceramic case and bracelet and black dial. A welcome addition to the current Laureato line-up.

The Girard-Perregaux Laureato 42 mm Ceramic combines the classic Laureato looks with a modern black design

Of course, ceramic is not a new material, but the ceramic case in combination with the ceramic bracelet makes for a cool watch. Especially because of the ceramic bracelet. One that is distinguished by its wide shaped satin-brushed links and by the domed and polished interlink elements entirely made of black ceramic.

Inside we find the ever-reliable GP01800-0025 caliber. It is a mechanical self-winding movement with a power-reserve of 54 hours. Nice to see GP uses materials other than stainless steel and gold. Nothing earth shattering as we clearly have other brands as well offering black-on-black color schemes and ceramic as a material. But for watch aficionados looking for a Laureato that is different from the other 34 iterations, it is a good choice. The video below shows the dark side of the watch.
