Girard-Perregaux is back in business. After the Laureato Tourbillon and the Laureato 42 mm, GP completes the line with the Girard-Perregaux Laureato 38 mm model.

Yes, okay, there is also a 34-millimeter quartz model, but we would like to focus on the (mechanical) watches for men. And with the current retro-trend, 38 millimeters is a modest yet fine size for a men’s watch.

We introduced the Laureato before, but for newcomers: the Laureato roots can be traced back to the mid-70s, the Gerard Genta era of watches. Genta of course being responsible for two of the most famous 70s watches: the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and the Patek Philippe Nautilus.

The Girard-Perregaux Laureato 38 mm is available with a white, slate grey or blue dial

The Laureato was clearly inspired by these two with its octagonal shaped bezel and Clous de Paris dial. A piece of trivia: the names was suggested by GP’s Italian distributor and was inspired by the Italian name of the Dustin Hoffman-film The Graduate: Il Laureato.

Besides the size of the case and movement, the Girard Perregaux Laureato 38 mm is identical to the 42-millimeter version. A stainless steel or 18-carat pink gold case with either an alligator leather strap or a bracelet. The stainless steel versions are available with a white, slate grey or blue dial. The pink gold version are only available with either a white or a slate grey dial. And f you want, there are two stainless steel models with 56 brilliant-cut diamonds on the bezel.

The new Girard-Perregaux Laureato is available with so many options that almost everyone could have one that suits his or her tastes. Additionally, Girard-Perregaux’ price point is more attractive than the icons on which the Laureato is based, so a substantial market share could be a realistic possibility.
