This Frederique Constant x Christiaan van der Klaauw Tourbillon Planetarium for Only Watch 2023 is the result of a collaboration between a Swiss and Dutch brand. With a reason. Frederique Constant is Swiss, but the original founders are Dutch, and Christiaan van der Klaauw is also Dutch. And, the new CEO of CvdK is Pim Koeslag, and he was technical director at FC. Therefor, there is serious connection between the two brands for years, which leads to this unique piece for the Only Watch 2023 auction.

One, Frederique Constant, has an in-house tourbillon, the other, Christiaan van der Klaauw, is a renewed expert when it comes to astronomical watches. And they make the world’s smallest planetarium. So if you mix those two skills you will get this exceptional 42-millimeter piece in platinum. With a sparkling blue aventurine dial showing four attractions.

The Frederique Constant x Christiaan van der Klaauw Tourbillon Planetarium has a power reserve of 38 hours

At first, there is a calendar at 9 o’clock which combines the date and month on one sub dial. Then there is a 60 seconds tourbillon at 6 o’clock with the small seconds. Furthermore a combined logo of Frederique Constant & Christiaan van der Klaauw that sits at 3 o’clock. And the main spectacle is at 12 o’clock, the planetarium. It has six discs in the same plane, each with its own planet completing an orbit around the center, the sun. Which means that Mercury (88 days), Venus (225 days), Earth (365 days), Mars (687 days). And the other planets like Jupiter (12 years) and Saturn (29 years), are all moving. It also means that you really have to take your time to see the planets moving on the watch. As they actually move at those speeds. Almost magic, right? O, and you want to keep the watch winded.

Inside the Frederique Constant x Christiaan van der Klaauw Tourbillon Planetarium is FC’s automatic in-house caliber FC-988 with a tourbillon. And then the planetarium module of CvdK is mounted on it. This combination probably costs some energy, however the watch still has a power reserve of 38 hours.
