This is the third striking watch from A. Lange & Söhne within the Zeitwerk Decimal collection. It is called A. Lange & Söhne Zeitwerk Decimal Strike and offers functionality that is ‘in between’ the functionality of the other two models.

The basic model is named Zeitwerk Striking Time and it chimes the full hour and every quarter. It cannot strike on demand. The top model is the Zeitwerk Minute Repeater, which can strike hours and minutes on demand. So, it can literally let you hear the actual time. It also strikes the elapsed hours and minutes. And because it is a decimal minute repeater it strikes elapsed times of ten minutes. Easier to decipher than traditional minute repeaters that strike the elapsed quarters and then the elapsed minutes after that quarter.

The A. Lange & Söhne Zeitwerk Decimal Strike has two gongs visible next to the small seconds sub-dial

As the name already says, the A. Lange & Söhne Zeitwerk Decimal Strike is a striking watch, not a repeater. It can’t chime on demand. It only chimes when a full hour has past and when ten minutes have past. Not the exact time though, but an indication of how much time has passed. That is why the Decimal Strike costs around $ 131,000 or € 120.000 while the minute repeater is nearly four times more expensive. And probably four times more complex.

Still, this watch isn’t just another striking watch. The digital time display with three discs, with an instantaneously jumping minute disc, looks great. And is very easy to read. At 6 o’clock there is a seconds sub-dial, with the gongs of the watch on each side of that dial. At 12 there is the power-reserve indicator. If you don’t want it to strike (it uses some energy) you can put the mechanism off.

Like a lot of A. Lange’s gold watches its case is from honey gold; harder than regular gold alloys and with a warmer and softer hue. The A. Lange & Söhne Zeitwerk Decimal Strike is limited to 100 pieces. Below the specs you can see a clip of the watch.
