The Zenith El Primero Range Rover Special Edition is the result of the partnership between the famous Swiss watchmaker Zenith and the famous British car manufacturer Land Rover. And it all has to do with the year 1969.

In that year Zenith launched its first El Primero chronograph. In the same year Land Rover unveiled a prototype of their first luxury off-road car: the Range Rover. Almost 50 years later this results in a long-term partnership. Partnerships with car manufacturers are not unique. Hublot does so with its official watchmaking relationship with Ferrari, Breitling with Bentley, Ball with BMW, and Bremont with Jaguar. These partnerships often lead to special editions, and interesting models. Like this one.

The Zenith El Primero Range Rover Special Edition is not a limited edition

In tribute to the first Range Rover, launched on the market in 1970, the brushed grey dial bears the inscription “Zenith Range Rover”. The hands and hour-markers are rhodiumed and luminescent. The matt black ceramised 42-millimetres case with an aluminium bodywork – just like the original Range Rover – houses the El Primero 400B movement. This column-wheel movement beats at a frequency of 5 Hz (36,000 vph) which enables a tenth-of-a-second display. The movement has 326 parts driving the central hours and minutes hands, along with chronograph and tachymeter functions, and has a power-reserve of over 50 hours.

The sapphire case back bears an “El Primero Range Rover / Special Edition” engraving and reveals an oscillating weight personalised with the Zenith and Range Rover logos. It comes with an ivory-toned or blue perforated calfskin strap. Which is coated with a rubber line for wearing comfort.

So, if you are the owner of a Range Rover, tell us, would you buy this special timepiece?
