But of course, as the name would suggest, this watch is more than just a tribute to man’s best friend. Like every year Vacheron Constantin produces a watch in honor of the Chinese new year. And on February 16^th, 2018 it will be The Year of the Dog.

The result is a limited edition of two models. One in platinum and one in 18-carat 5N pink gold, on which master engravers and enamellers have gone all out. Take the foliage motif on the dial for example. It is based on classic Chinese iconography and etched directly in the metal. The pattern remains semi-embedded and stands out from its gold base by a subtle stage setting of variously accentuating reliefs. These create a depth effect. And this makes the vegetation appear to be floating over the dial.

Then follows Grand Feu enameling to enhance the blue or bronze-toned dial. Finally the dog is applied to the dial center: it is made of either platinum or pink gold depending on the version.

This impressive feat of watchmaking is powered by the caliber 2460 G4 and makes possible a hands free time display. The time can be seen through four apertures showing the hours, minutes, days and date. All movement components of the 2460 G4 are of course finely finished in accordance with the criteria of the Hallmark of Geneva.

It comes on a dark blue or brown alligator leather strap and it is delivered with a handy corrector pen and magnifying glass to admire the craftsmanship.
