The Blancpain Fifty Fathoms collection, introduced in 1953, is widely regarded as the first modern dive watch, designed to meet the needs of professional divers. Developed in collaboration with the French Navy’s combat divers, led by Captain Robert “Bob” Maloubier, it was built for extreme underwater conditions. Key innovations included a unidirectional rotating bezel to measure dive time, high water resistance up to 50 fathoms (91 meters), and a bold, legible dial.
