The Air-King is back and it has grown: the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Air-King now measures 40 millimeters, an increase of 6 millimeters compared to the classic model.
The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Air-King goes back to the 1950s
The Air-King perpetuates the aeronautical heritage of the original Rolex Oyster. That model was created by Rolex in the 1950s as a tribute to the pioneers of flight and the role that the Oyster watches had in the story of aviation. The pilot was worn by many record breaking pilots.
The case is made of corrosion-resistant 904L steel. The case back is screwed down with a tool that allows only Rolex watchmakers to access the movement. Fitted with the Twinlock double waterproofness system, the winding crown screws down securely against the case.
The crystal of the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Air-King is made of virtually scratch-proof sapphire. The waterproof Oyster case provides protection for the Air-King’s high-precision movement. It is also fitted with a shield to protect against magnetic fields, a feature of pilots’ watches of the past.
Inside is the caliber 3131, a self-winding mechanical movement developed and manufactured by Rolex. It features a Perpetual rotor and offers a power reserve of approximately 48 hours. The Air-King is fitted on a solid-link Oyster bracelet in 904L steel with a folding clasp.
