The Jacob & Co. Bugatti Tourbillon is the watch equivalent of Bugatti’s brand new hypercar, called the Tourbillon. The partnership between the two brands started in 2019 and focusses on “extreme luxury, mechanical performance and craft”, and leaded to several watch models. This new tourbillon is the latest creation and bears no less than 10 design elements from the new car.

As the watch is launched almost at the same time as the car, it means that the designers and engineers at Jacob & Co. must have had sneak previews of the new Bugatti. And indeed, founder Jacob Arabo and CEO Benjamin Arabov and their team have collaborated with Bugatti’s design team, led by Achim Anscheidt and Jan Schmid. Doing that must be one of humanity’s coolest projects to work on…

Bugatti-logo shaped case

In stripped down terms, this is a tourbillon watch with an animation build in, a moving mechanical device called automaton. Within the 52 x 44-millimeter black DLC titanium case in the shape of the Bugatti logo (and front of the car) Jacob & Co. shows the inside of the V16 engine. It represents the 16 cylinders of the real Bugatti engine, however executed in sapphire.

A large block of transparent sapphire is used and shaped and drilled like a engine block, including 16 cylinder openings. These hold 16 titanium pistons connected to a single-axis crankshaft. If you activate the automaton all 16 cylinders in the block, that is connected to 16 exhaust manifolds, will jump up and down for 20 seconds. Time to wind the automaton again.

On the top of the case band, you will find the front grille of the car flanked by two side radiator inlets. On the bottom of the case band is the shape of the back of the car, including swirly taillights. The side of the case shows two large sapphire openings to admire the automaton from the side as well.

Hands behave like speedo and rev counter of the car

Looking at the front of the Jacob & Co. Bugatti Tourbillon you will notice it has four sapphires. On the left is a sub dial that shows the 30-second flying tourbillon. On the right sub dial are the power reserves: a red one for the overall power and a blue one for the automaton. And on the middle dial is the time, shown with two retrograde hands, just like the speedometer and rev counter of the car, in a 270-degree arc. The hour hand is jumping instantly from hour to hour.

The Bugatti Tourbillon – we mean the car – has a cluster of instruments mounted on the center of the steering wheel that partly functions as a dashboard. And the cluster on the watch kind of looks the same. And if you are going to own the car and the watch, you might find some more similarities as well. If you cannot find all 10 of them, give us a call and we’ll help you in exchange for a short ride in your new car.

The Jacob & Co. Bugatti Tourbillon has a total power reserve of 48 hours

Its crown at the 12 o’clock position is not only for winding, but it is also the automaton start pusher. Setting the time can be done by a lift-out bow on the case back, underneath the dials. Which you don’t feel when wearing the watch. It goes without saying that the 557-component Jacob & Co. caliber JCAM55 of this masterpiece, including its automaton, is finished at the highest level. The total power reserve is 48 hours with which you can activate 20 animation sequences.

The Jacob & Co. Bugatti Tourbillon comes on an interchangeable black rubber strap with louvers. Which can be closed by a black DLC titanium deployment buckle. The watch is limited to 150 pieces in this configuration, and another 100 personalized ones. So that if you order a Bugatti-red Tourbillon car, you can also have a Bugatti-red Tourbillon watch. The price of the watch, 340,000 US dollars, is about 1/10th of the price of the car.
