For the third time in seven years Hublot teams up with tattoo artist Maxime Plescia-Buchi, this time leading to the Hublot Spirit of Big Bang Sang Bleu. It’s an even more noticeable, bold model than its predecessors and it comes in five limited edition variants.

Maxime Plescia-Buchi is a Swiss tattoo shop owner in Zurich, and the shop is called Sang Blue. He also has shops in London and Los Angeles as well, and his scope went further than inking skin. In 2016 he collaborated with Hublot for the first time, transposing his tattoo skills to the design of watches.

With this new Sang Bleu the shape of the case is changed from the barrel shape – since 2014 one of the main signatures of the Spirit of Big Bang series – to a rhomboid-ish shape. Which is “a parallelogram with two edge lengths and no right angles” according to Wikipedia.

This Sang Blue kind of translates triangle and parallelogram tattoo shapes to a watch

The remarkable watch comes in an all-black ceramic, titanium or gold version. The first two are limited to 200 pieces, the gold one is limited to 100 pieces. Besides that, the titanium and the gold version are both for sale as a Pavé with 180 diamonds on the case and bezel, both limited to just one piece. So let’s see which rapper takes which one first.

Inside the faceted 42-millimeter geometric shaped, ten-sided, 3D looking case there is almost no dial. The dial is skeletonized and has a large rhomboid structure in the center to show the time with the big arrow of the rhomboid for the hours, and the smaller for the minutes.

Reading the time on the Hublot Spirit of Big Bang Sang Bleu is a little challenge

The thin large hand overlaying the rhomboid is the chronograph seconds hand and there are two sub-dials with rhomboid shaped hands – as far as you can call it hands – that show small seconds and the chronograph’s 30-minute counter. And there’s also a date windows between the 4 and 5 o’clock position. Telling the time in a split second is not possible.

The movement of the Hublot Spirit of Big Bang Sang Bleu is the automatic Hublot caliber HUB4700 with a 50-hour power reserve. It is furnished with a silicon regulating organ and an open-worked geometric-shaped rotor. All the models come on a smooth black rubber strap with a matching buckle.
