Whatever your preference, you have to give kudos to Hublot for their Hublot Spirit of Big Bang Moonphase Color Editions. The brand is well known for its extravagant styling and now they turned it up even more.

The regular Spirit of Big Bang Moonphase with its skeletonized movement, titanium or 18-carat King gold tonneau case and quartz dial wasn’t enough for Hublot. They also colored the quartz dial and set the bezel with 48 colored sapphire or amethyst stones.

There are four different versions, available in either titanium or King gold: Orange, Pink, Purple and Dark Blue. Behind the colored quartz dial you can see the skeletonized HUB1770 movement. Features, besides the hours and minutes, are small seconds at 10 o’clock, a big date at 2 o’clock and a moon phase at 6 o’clock. The moon phase looks especially nice as it is partly seen through a semi-transparent disc.

Yes, these Hublot Spirit of Big Bang Moonphase Color Editions are over the top

Indulgent and extravagant, but that was to be expected with Hublot. A well-produced watch with precious materials that are nothing to laugh at, even if this is not your style. Perfect for their target audience.

But somehow, we can’t get used to a moon phase on a Hublot watch. It feels that such a (classical) complication does not connect well with the brand. On the other hand, the way they have executed a moon phase on this model is quite innovative. And, except for the dark blue version, it is a real eyecatcher apart from the bright color scheme and stone set bezel.
