Okay, this is impressive. Most of the time we roll on our eyes if we receive another press release of some car or vintage inspired time piece. It doesn’t mean they do not look great, but the PR speak is dreadful. With the new Bovet Récital 20 Astérium the press release deserves to be over the top.

Why? Because this Bovet Récital 20 Astérium 10-day Flying Tourbillon Night Sky Annual Calendar with Astronomical Functions (the full name) is pretty impressive. A breathtaking piece that is completely in line with Bovet’s taste for majestic and dramatic pieces.

The Récital 20 Astérium continues the innovative display that was seen in Bovet’s Récital 18 Shooting Star from 2016. The centerpiece is the night sky. The Bovet watchmakers opted to map out the stars and constellations visible from the Earth. It is on a dome of translucent blue quartz, on which they are laser-engraved before being coated in super-luminova to create a true-to-life sky.

It does not stop there. The annual calendar is not based on our 365-day per year Gregorian calendar, but Bovet opted for a sidereal calendar. The duration of a complete Earthly orbit (known as a sidereal year) is 365 days, 6 hours, 9 minutes and 9.77 seconds, or an unchanging 365.25 days.

Thus, the annual calendar is calculated on a 365.25-day cycle to reflect the real duration of one full terrestrial orbit. Thanks to this the instantaneous position of the stars in the sky is displayed with precision.

When we go to the case back, we find the annual calendar with the corresponding season and astrological indications, with a moon phase and power-reserve.

A horological piece of art with a size to match with a diameter of 46 millimeters. Not to mention the price of $ 350,000. The Bovet Récital 20 Astérium is limited to 60 pieces of each model: red gold, white gold or platinum. The video below the specs shows some of its magic.
