AP reveals two versions of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Minute Repeater Supersonnerie Black Ceramic. Now “sonnerie” is French for “ringing” or “making sounds”. The term Supersonnerie created by the Swiss brand, refers to producing both a high volume and a quality sound. AP thinks it’s “super” using new techniques to shape better sounds from something small as a watch.

The new Royal Oak has an all-black ceramic case, including the back of the case. The first time AP uses this in combination with a minute repeater. The case measures 42 millimeters, with a thickness of 14 millimeters. The dial shows the renewed grande tapisserie, the pattern you can see, and the small seconds at 6 o’clock have a snailing finishing. And you have a choice when it comes to the hour markers. They are executed in either white gold or with 13 baguette-cut diamonds. For both models the hands are white gold, with luminescent coating.

The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Minute Repeater Supersonnerie Black Ceramic has small apertures on the back to release the sound

The case back features small apertures to release and intensify the minute repeater’s sound. Where a classic minute repeater has gongs attached to the main plate, the hand-wound Audemars Piguet caliber 2953 uses a different mechanism. This was unveiled in 2015 and uses a soundboard to improve the transmission of sounds by using a titanium membrane. It’s a patented acoustic technology that took years to develop and offers new possibilities for AP’s minute repeaters.

The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Minute Repeater Supersonnerie Black Ceramic comes on a black rubber strap with titanium studs. Which is secured with a titanium AP folding clasp. The price is officially “on request”.
