One of the more popular collections of the Danish brand is the 1140. The ‘L’ in 1140L stands for lever escapement. With this type of escapement the balance wheel is only shortly in contact with the lever, reducing friction and improving accuracy.
The 40-millimeter pink gold case has all the hallmarks of traditional watchmaking. A round form, teardrop shaped lugs and a stepped bezel combined with an extremely finished dial and blued steel and pink gold hands.

The hands are perhaps a bit strange to focus on, but they are a good example of the amount of detail that goes into a watch from the Danish brand. They spend a lot of time on their hands. Urban Jürgensen hands are cut from selected steel and are manually finished to ensure a perfect shape and fit. One of a number of components that are individually assembled and finished.
Numerous hours of polishing with increasingly fine-grained diamond paper are followed by mirror polishing. They use secret types of polishing with a variety of wooden pegs specially shaped for the task. The final touch is then set by meticulous thermal blueing, performed by experienced artisans until they get a specific type of navy blue.
Not to speak of the hand finished guilloché dial. Each dial requires up to 700 actions and takes two full days to complete. The Urban Jürgensen reference 1140L RG Brown has the looks, but the P4 caliber inside is relatively simple. Just hours, minutes and small seconds. All driven by this very robust lever escapement movement with a power-reserve of 72 hours. Haute horlogerie from Scandinavia, who would’ve thought?
