However, it gains global fame in 1965 when NASA selects it for manned space missions after rigorous testing, making it the first watch certified for space flight. The Speedmaster earns its iconic status when it accompanies the Apollo 11 astronauts on the Moon in 1969, earning the nickname “Moonwatch”.

Throughout the decades, the Speedmaster evolves with various models, including the Professional line, which retains much of its original design, and others that feature modern updates like automatic movements and additional complications.
