When you look at the Strom Agonium Nethuns II you get the idea that someone found an ancient watch in a sunken pirate ship from the middle ages. Only some overgrowing seaweed is missing. So wearing a watch like this might give other people the impression that you are some kind of a pirate. Or a romantic guy who loves the past, fairy tales and heroic eposes. Let’s talk about Daniel Strom, the man behind the brand, who is also a designer and philosopher.

Strom is a Swiss watchmaker who gets his inspiration from ‘questioned the past to enlighten the future’. His website quotes: ‘Considering time not as a simple measurement, but as a vital energy, he infuses his creations with a symbolic dimension, consistently highlighting the human condition faced with the eternal nature of life’.

The case of every Strom Agonium Nethuns II is handmade

Back to the watch. It is a massive diver: 48 millimetres width without crown of course, 54 millimetres height and an impressive thickness of 16 millimetres. The Strom Agonium Nethuns II is available in 925 solid silver or bronze (CuSn8).

The name of the Strom Agonium Nethuns II is derived from the Etruscan mythology, the god for water: Nethuns. The model is inspired from Jules Verne’s novel Twenty thousand leagues under the sea, published in 1870. It is all about deep oceans, monsters, pirates and more in a retro-futurist world.

The Nethuns II, like all watches in the Agonium collection of Strom, comprises two cases. The robust and hermetic inner case houses the movement. The outer case ‘brings the artistic dimension and gives free rein to the sculptor’s talent’. Each one is fashioned by hand, never two the same, with limited editions in each alloy. A sculpture first, a timepiece second, according to Daniel Strom. Yes, it is a kind of a weird watch. But you know what? We like it.
