The Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional Lacquered White Dial is a new steel Speedmaster. It was already subtly revealed by a former secret agent. As the actor who played James Bond, Daniel Craig, already worn a steel Speedmaster with a white dial at an event in November 2023. Details were not given, but the Speedy freaks found out it was not a white gold version. As that one is available with a white dial as well.

Omega states the launch of this white lacquered version is a reference to the white suits that NASA astronauts wear. In space and on the moon. As, if you don’t already know that by know, the Omega Speedmaster was the first watch on the moon.

This Speedmaster has nods to the Omega Alaska I prototype

Another reason the dial of this Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional is white has to do with a 1969 prototype. That model, the Alaska I, was developed by Omega for NASA to function as a space watch. After experimenting with colors, it appeared that a white dial provides a particularly effective thermal reflection coefficient.

The name Speedmaster on this new Moonwatch is written in red, a nod to the protective red case that surrounded the original Alaska I watch. The size of this stainless steel version is 42 millimeters, and it has all the regular bits and bytes of the Speedmaster. The bezel is from black anodized aluminum and has a tachymeter scale Speedmaster nerds call “Dot over Ninety”. It’s a pre-1970s inconsistency highly appreciated by collectors of vintage Speedy’s, here it’s just a reference to that old typo.

The Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional Lacquered White Dial has a power reserve of 50 hours

Behind the white lacquered dial is the hand-wound Omega caliber 3861, which is basically a very updated version of the original Calibre 321. It is anti-magnetic to 15,000 Gauss, has Côtes de Genève decoration and a rhodium-plated finish. The escapement is co-axial, with a silicon balance spring and the movement offers a power reserve of 50 hours when fully wound.

The Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional Lacquered White Dial is available with a stainless steel bracelet. Which is a couple of hundreds more expensive than the other two options. As you can buy it with a perforated black leather or rubber strap as well.
