This Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso a Eclipse Self-portrait as a painter is a tribute to the famous Dutch post-impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890). This unique watch is the second out of a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso a Eclipse series: the first one, launched in 2015, contained Van Gogh’s painting Sunflowers.
There are only four pieces of this model of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso a Eclipse
The creation of these Van Gogh inspired watches was an idea of the Dutch boutique partner Gassan from Amsterdam. From there the collaboration between Jaeger-LeCoultre and The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam started.
This new Reverso (the first one was introduced in 1931) has a unique window (Eclipse system) which can be operated by a roller on the right side of the watch at the 2 o’clock position. Turning it will open or close the window in order to show the hand-painted miniature enamel Self-portrait of a painter. Jaeger-LeCoultre is one of the few brands with an in-house team of miniature enamellers.
Within the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso à Eclipse Self-portrait as a painter you will find the Jaeger-LeCoultre caliber 849. Only four pieces are made.
Van Gogh completed his Self-portrait as a painter in 1888. The original artwork is currently on display at the museum in Amsterdam.
