A dress watch with a dial from paper, this is he Citizen The ‘Citizen’ Limited Edition. Which is created by the Japanese brand to celebrate their 100th anniversary. It has a size of 38 millimeters and runs on a solar-powered quartz, and it is a limited edition of only 600 pieces.

The case and bracelet are from Citizen’s “own” titanium, called Super Titanium. They use a technology with a Duratect coating to harden the surface of solid titanium. The result is an alloy that is over five times harder than stainless steel. Together with the dual spherical sapphire crystal, also known as double domed, it protects the dial made of Japanese washi paper.

What is washi paper?

You might know washi paper: you can find it in home interiors as it is used for screens, room dividers and sliding doors in Japanese style. Washi is a sort of paper made from the fibers of the paper mulberry plant. These fibers are soaked in water, then thickened, and then filtered through a bamboo screen. It is used for letter writing and books, and home decoration for instance. And for the dial of the Citizen The ‘Citizen’ Limited Edition.

The dial has a layer of blue colored (dyed) washi paper giving it a fiber-like structure or pattern. The double domed sapphire offers various light shades on the dial creating even more special effects. Furthermore, the dial has applied silver-colored indexes, an applied logo, a silver-colored date aperture and silver-colored hour and minutes hands. The central seconds hand is gold-toned.

The Citizen The ‘Citizen’ Limited Edition is solar powered

The solar powered (Eco-drive) quartz movement inside is the Citizen caliber A060 with an accuracy of about 5 seconds. Per year that is. It has a perpetual calendar, so the date will almost always be accurate. And it offers a wide range of extra functions like a power reserve indicator, an insufficient-charge warning, an energy-saving function, shock detection, automatic hand position adjustment and time difference correction. The calendar function switches over at midnight.

The Citizen The ‘Citizen’ Limited Edition comes on a silver-tone super titanium bracelet with fold-over clasp.
